Lizz Fields attended Creative & Performing High Scholl (CAPA) in South Philly and began singing background for Jill Scott as well as performing in many of the well-known artist venues on the east coast (Black Lily, Zanzibar Blue, The Wetlands and Freedom Theatre). She began opening for some of her predecessors, Jazzyfatnastees, Cody Chestnut and Kindred. Lizz thrives best in live performance; her presence is spontaneous, vibrant and infectious.

Being made fun of as a child for not having a conventional church voice, it was only then that Lizz felt comfortable enough with her jazzy style to start performing in church at 21. Her nightingale-like tone and Ella inspired melodies and lyrical consciousness have set her trademark.

Lizz has managed to breakout of the habitual “Philly” sound and cultivate a sound that’s all her own. Coming from cross-cultural parentage has put Lizz in a uniquely advantaged position. She crosses genres and colour lines without even thinking about it. Her unique and captivating vocals are uncontrived, loose, animated like your favourite pair of jeans. You just put ‘em on, and it’s on!

Together with famed Philly flutist and keyboard player, Damon Bennett, they have come up with a flavoursome melange. For the moment, we call it neo-experimental jazz. Think Ella meets Sade meets Portishead.

The newly released, inadvertent debut CD from Lizz Fields, By Day By Night started off just a demo. A friend gave it to a local Chicago retailer and they put it on their best-selling list and told other retailers about the CD, it has sold about 2500 copies to date since the release about a month ago, all by word of mouth.

Lizz has been getting radio support on national, public and indie stations in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, DC and Philadelphia.

If you’re looking for the next new thing with staying power, you’ve found it.

Unconventional but familiar. Lizz Fields.
